Dr. Beers is an interdisciplinary scholar and lecturer with academic experience in psychology, family science, and women's and gender studies. As a feminist methodologist, she approaches teaching, research, and practice with a focus on embodiment and relational ways of knowing. Trained in early childhood development within the relational context of parent-child interactions, her research explores how families and larger social systems influence development across the lifespan. More specifically, Dr. Beers studies shame and social conformity within the context of mothering and how maternal socialization influences how mothers teach their children about identity and human flourishing. As a dance/movement psychotherapist, she integrates embodied and creative methodologies into both clinical practice and scholarship, valuing the body as a vital source of knowledge. Her interdisciplinary work bridges research, teaching, and practice, with particular attention to power, context, and lived experience.
