Requirements for Faculty Projects

All proposals should be sent to elise.robinson@uga.edu

If it is useful, a generic grant proposal template can be found HERE.

  1. Applicants must be a core or affiliate faculty member of the IWS
  2. Proposed projects must be related to Women’s and Gender Studies.
  3. Applicants must commit to including and mentoring an undergraduate student as part of this project.
    • Inclusion of WMST undergraduate students is ideal, but not required.
  4. IWS will prioritize proposals for research that spans 2 semesters (but we will consider proposals for research that can be completed within 1 semester). Successful proposals will be funded with $500/semester for the faculty member (as compensation for their mentoring) and $500-$1000/semester for the undergraduate student, depending on the hours/activities needed. Proposals should specify how the requested student money will be used (in terms of hours worked, nature of work, travel, etc.).
  5. For 2-semester projects, the proposal should specify which two semesters the project will encompass: Summer/Fall, Fall/Spring, Spring/Summer, or Spring/Fall. (Note that two semester projects must take place in consecutive semesters with the exception of Spring/Fall projects.)
  6. 2-semester projects will require a mid-point check-in to determine eligibility for continuing into the second semester.
  7. We will prioritize proposals that engage with community partners and/or have public-facing research results. Consider 21st Century modes of research communication such as:
    • podcasts
    • a research display at the public library
    • an online website or ‘storymap’
    • a collaborative ’zine or pamphlet distributed locally
    • a community panel and discussion
  8. CREATIVE collaborations must include a local organization and have public presentations of final products that amplify the multivocal character of our community and/or draw attention to pressing concerns.
    • Community partners must be confirmed for accepted proposals to receive funding.
    • IWS will consider proposals that do not yet have clear confirmation from the community partner IF the applicant already has an existing relationship with the potential partner (such as work or volunteer experience) but needs more time to confirm their participation.
  9. Mellon funds may be combined with other funds and grants.
  10. All successful grantees will be required to attend a kick-off meeting to discuss expectations and answer questions about the grants.
