Associate Professor, Entertainment and Media Studies Dr. Bernabo earned a BA in Gender & Women's Studies from the University of Illinois, and a PhD in Communication Studies and a Graduate Certificate in Gender, Women's, & Sexuality Studies from the University of Iowa. Her research focuses on television as a textual forum and a production process, connecting industry practices to television series to explore TV's engagement with issues of gender, sexuality, race and disability. Her book, Black and Blue TV: Industry Responses to the Black Lives Matter Movement builds on interviews with writers, producers, directors, actors, and activists to articulate broadcast television's response to racial tensions in the 21st century. Dr. Bernabo teaches courses in entertainment media industries, representation and identity.
